Pig Pen's
STORY
As children growing up in New Orleans, we were fortunate to have an abundance of opportunities to connect with a variety of wonderful, colorful people who happily shared their memories, and — most importantly — their stories with us, shaping us as well as our imaginations. When we grew to have children of our own, we carried those experiences with us, and those stories enriched their lives the same way it did ours. With this innate understanding of the importance of the stories, we knew we wanted to help bring more into the world.
In 2019, the year we sought to publish our first book, we stumbled across a hurdle all too familiar for authors. The publishing companies we had hoped to work with would not permit us to retain the rights to our book. Rather than selling off our hard work and beloved memories, we decided to take our love for storytelling and pour it into something new: Pig Pen Publishing.
By authors and for authors, Pig Pen Publishing empowers us to create what we want, to publish when we want, and to help support other authors how we want. At Pig Pen Publishing, we work hard to not only help authors navigate the ins and outs of the publishing world, but to ensure that they have the rights to their own stories.
About S.L. West
S.L. West is the author of the new dystopian novel, Freedom Rising. This is the first book of her Freedom trilogy. She thrives on interaction with her readers and has enjoyed book signing events, book club Q&A’s and recently became hooked on the Comic-Con world.
Prior to becoming a published author, S.L. West had many jobs including a bank teller and phlebotomist. However, her most important role has been as a stay-at-home mom, to 3 kids, and firefighters wife.
S.L. West writes whatever her creative brain conjures up. She bucks the belief that authors should “remain in their lane” of writing. While acknowledging the wisdom in marketing a specific genre, she believes authors should not be boxed into one class just as an artist is not restricted to one style of painting; “an empty page is merely the canvas for which an author paints with their words.”
